Seven or eight years ago we had a holiday in Spain. We are/were familiar with a lot of the country and decided this time we just wanted to relax somewhere quiet and unspoilt. We chose a small village............ if I tell you the name I'll have to kill you.
Ok then, you persuaded me, it is called Puerto Juviley. It is in Andalucia south of Granada and just in a mountainous area of natural beauty called the Alpujarras.
What attracted us was that we could rent a house at a reasonable price for a month and it was in the middle of nowhere. The village has only thirty or so inhabitants that live there all year round, it has no electricity other than solar power and is about 1km off any road.

In the times of the Moors the village was inhabited and a system of irrigation was built from the year long running stream. There are also a number of fresh water springs in the area. The house we rented had water from the stream but no drinking water. We had to fetch it every day from the spring.
We decided to re-visit this village to see if it had changed in the intervening years.
In short, it hadn't.

Parking up in a dirt area we walked down and through it and had a poke around.
The foundations of the old mill are still there but the building above it is newer -
I took a number of photos to give you a general impression. Bear in mind the houses are surrounded by trees and are quite hidden. The stream runs all year and makes for a good play area in the pools and for building dams to make a bit of a pond to paddle in.
The only noise is from the wind in the trees/bamboo and the gentle tinkling of the water flowing over the stones. It is also a cool shaded place to give a bit of relief from the 44 degree heat we had today.
